detail of transparent materiality of glass cube
Side perspective a glass cube rests atop a horizontally illuminated surface showing the transparent nature of the material.
As the perspective is tilted slightly, a sliver of an animated colour field is revealed.

About the work
Hundreds of colour-field paintings with a circular focal point are animated in an infinite loop and mirrored within a glass cube.
Solid Emptiness:
An innate emotional and contemplative resonance is activated when perceiving colour. The intensity of the psychological and physiological impact varies between individuals, yet its ability to stir the subconscious is universal. When this colour field is reflected a spatial environment beyond physicality is revealed. In my work Calm, there is an interplay of light reflecting off parallel transparent planes within a glass cube. When illuminated from one side, a single light source appears multiplied in the adjacent planes and a seemingly infinite space beyond is opened. A viewer’s comprehension of the animated colour field’s origin is bewildered by the internal and external reflections of the materiality. The space no longer inhabits a fixed mass, but is extrapolated inwards and outwards in a reality suspended in the viewer’s mind. From a perspective where the individual’s eyes align parallel with the animate colour field, the same objective reality is rendered invisible, leaving a dimensionality of solid emptiness.
